THE REALITY

Access is not equal.


Applicants with ethnic minority backgrounds in Denmark have to send 52% more job applications to be invited to the same number of interviews as applicants of ethnic Danish origin. This is not a talent gap. It is an access gap. (University of Copenhagen, 2018; cited by the Danish Institute for Human Rights).

Networks still shape access


In the cultural and creative sectors, the EU notes that many opportunities are linked to personal contacts and active networks, and that women are left behind in these structures. One clear example: women make up 21% of KODA members but received just 11% of payouts in 2024. (EU Voices of Culture, 2019; KODA Gender Statistics 2025).

Power is still unevenly distributed.

People of Danish origin are 16 times more likely to hold a private-sector director role than people of non-Western origin — 48 out of 10,000 compared with 3 out of 10,000. Leadership and influence are still structurally unevenly distributed. (Tænketanken EQUALIS, 2024 / tillæg om herkomst).
